Just watched it now, thank christ I found this site, if I had watched that load of tripe not knowing what I know now I would have topped myself. The BBC are terrible at reporting about things like this

  • I know - just two days ago i confessed to my mum all my troubles and that I was considering BR. She phoned me panicking saying I'd never be able to get a tenner out of a cash machine ever agin. Thank goodness you lot are making me feel calm again.

Can someone just clarify, if I go BR and have a basic account with my wages going in and me paying my IPA, would I be able to manage the rest of my money and bills myself?

Also, i keep reading that when you go BR you need to take money out for living expenses as even the Co-op cashminder account will be suspended - how long is it suspended for?

    Thank you

Your cashminder account will not be frozen so don`t worry. The only people who have problems are people in Brighton, for some reason the OR there closes any accounts pre BR, and makes you open a new account post BR. My cashminder account runs exactly as my HSBC and Nationwide accounts did before I went BR, the only difference is the lack of a cheque book and overdraft facilities, apart from that the account is like any other account you would have, the only thing to beware of is that they have a 3 strikes rules and they will close the account, ie not having enough money in the account to service any DD`s SO`s and the like. So in answer to your question, yes it is you who will manage the account.

  • Thanks so much - that is what I though. I rarely use cheques anyway and do not want an OD ever again! All I want is my wages to go into an account, all my bills and any IPA payment to go out and me to ration myself any remainder over the month and even try to start saving some again one day!

I thought it was becuase the woman on the one-show was in Scotland or had choosen an odd account. Either way - there are accounts out there that will accept people without all that messing about as has been said.
