The 3100 has the better graphics chip of the 2, although both are 'integrated' so they share the system memory when working.
Try it as is, and if you get any stutter, consider a half-decent PCIe dedicated graphics card (about £30 up) - preferably an ATi as they're more stable than Nvidia.
A new graphics card will give you an HDMI connection to your TV

cheers for that, are these graphic cards easy to fit, i am no expert when it comes to pcs but i did manage to upgrade the memory ok in the 2 dell pcs and my samsung nc100 -
Unfortunately, after delving deeper, I see that the PCI-e slot is only 1x speed, so won't take a standard graphics card - there are some about that will fit, but the cost far outweighs the performance.
Sorry about that.IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer

Try it and see, assuming a reasonable internet connection, SD content will be fine, HD could possibly stutter.
In the near future, a set top box will do similar http://www.projectcanvas.info/index.cfm/news/
and iplayer capability will probably be built into TV's along the lines of vieracast.
