With the tomatoes, don't they say max. of 8 trusses ?

  • With your toms, you could try hanging a ripe bannana on the plant as they emit 'something' that speeds up the ripening process.

My uncle told me to wrap any fully formed green toms once picked in a cardigan or put them in a fruit bowl with bananas that are on the turn as they omit loads of gases which should ripen them up.Not tried it yet as my green tom are a way off from being fully grown.Don't know if anyone does either of these methods?

Last year i wrapped all my green tomatoes in newspaper and put in a cardboard box in a dark place. They all turned red, just make sure you check back and not forget about them!

My problem is, I seem to have had a sudden spurt of male flowers, loads of them, but no female flowers? If I removed a few of the male flowers would this encourage more female flowers to grow, or should I just leave alone?

Just leave well alone, the plant will either sort itself out or not - you can't influence this one I'm afraid

So true, I had nothing a week ago after weeks of lovely male flowers and had given up hope but now have 5 or 6 on each plant and flowers galore.
Sadly, you don't have any badges yet but keep trying! See what you could get........... oh boo hoo I am crying into my wine. :D

I'm with Yorkie we've grown toms for years well decades :)
But one thing did you side shoot your plants or are they the tumbling types ?
If your growing regular toms they need sideshooting or they just go "nuts"and you get loads of little fruit that probably won't ripen.
sideshooting -is removing the little (that quickly become big )shoots that grow between the main "trunk"and the branches.I often described this as think of the tom as a person main stem with arms the sideshoots would be growing where your shoulder meets your neck.Well it's a good description when you can see me waving my arms about :rotfl:
sorry but it can't be bad weather as we've had plenty both in the greenhouse and outdoors sorry again;)
if it makes you feel better some of our courgettes are rubbish-but not all of them;)

    Bloomin broadband, wrote this already!

My poor courgettes have been ravaged, after getting a few lovely ones off it already they've been munched!

Four nice red toms though which was a nice surprise !
