The Boss has a new job and a question

I am starting a new job at the start of October, joining the apparently 'real' world of desk jobs and offices.

My question is relating to length of time with an employer. Now, obviously I will not be applying for any cards until early New Year due to probation period, but is there a minimum time you should wait or is it just a case of the longer you have worked for someone the better?

Another issue I have is with income. I will be paid a set salary, but also am intending to keep some part time work that will occupy me for about 6 hours during the evening each month. I want to be able to declare this as part of my salary but part of my working contract says I must not work for anybody else. Therefore, I was wondering - especially as this has never been checked on past applications - how likely are they to call my employer to ask for confirmation of salary?

I've had credit cards with halifax, hsbc, tesco, egg and barclaycard and none have ever queried or confirmed my salary in any way whatsoever. The only time i have had to prove it was when i applied for a mortgage.

    hope this helps

So can I get away with applying after 3 months in my job or should I wait for at least 6?

You can apply as soon as you want but as others say, the longer your length of service the better (generally up to a max of 3 years). Many companies put new starters on a 6 month probation period and therefore it would be logical to assume that many creditors would prefer people who have over 6 months with an employer as this means they are most likely out of probation - the next milestone is the 1 year mark as in many companies if they keep you for that long then your probably going to still be with them when you retire ;)

PS.. congratulations on the new job - its a scary world in office land though
