Are We Garden Junkies ?

Well, it's all about money saving and of course that thrill of growing your own plants.

Flowers or veg, or both, I thought now that I'm really getting into this forum we could start a thread thats all about what we're growing, how to make the most of the weather, get the best deals on seeds or even how to find where people are passing on their 'thinnings out'

To start, I've an allotment and a troublesome garden. I pack my day and night with family, work, gardening, work, dog walking, and family. And more work.

Basically, because I love it and might not have much time in the day, I garden and go to the allotment when I can. I may consider myself to be new at this, but I think I'm turning into a garden junkie and would much love to see any tips, advice on specific growing techniques, and anything else that can help us all grow and enjoy

Love to know about you all and how you fulfill your garden junkie needs and what you're doing at the moment at home or the allotment. Even what you're growing in your apartment baskets and pots right now!

Saving your own seeds is very fufilling. It's coming up to that time of year now. Annual flower seeds are an easy one to start with - poppies, marigolds, borage etc.
Veg needs a bit more knowledge to get a good seed for next years crop. I have saved from dwarf beans, peas and kale.

I had an allotment until recently. I found that I didn't have much time to get to it and so I used to put thick layers of newspapers topped with straw/hay around my raspberries to keep the weeds down. It worked very well - the raspberries seemed to thrive.

    Happy gardening:j

I've saved some dried seeds from one of the plants in my garden, but don't know when to sow them. The plant comes every year (I only planted it last year, thought I had killed it but i has come again this year but bigger), so do I wait until next spring now?

pinkpig... what plant is it, someone might be able to guide you about when to sow

I've saved some pansy seeds actually, kept a few to turn to seed and managed to catch them so will be interesting for next year

poppies and some other plants that I'm completely unsure when it comes to names but they're saved.

I adore sweetpeas so will let some of my few go to seed, I only seem to be able to grow those in huge pots
