Question re. chain store (Paul Simon) refund with reciept

Options
Hi,

I was wondering whether any of you could help me with a question relating to a refund from Paul Simon (the curtain chain). I bought a blind in their Sittingbourne store a few weeks ago and was told I could get a refund from any store as long as I had my receipt. The blind turned out to be slightly too small for my window so I went to my local store (Orpington) and was refused a refund as although I had the receipt for the item I didn't have the separate credit card receipt which showed my credit card number. The slight rude shop assistant told me I couldn't have a refund as I could be commiting fraud (for £23.99 I don't think so!!!) and would have to do the 100 mile return trip to Sittingbourne as they were the only store who could help me.

When I queried this with Paul Simon's customer services department I was told that "refunds are normally dealt with from the initial store of purchase and are not usually permitted from a different showroom". As there was no sign in the Sittingbourne store saying this, can they do this? Do chain stores normally limit where you get refunds from, or have I been really lucky to date by not having this problem before?

Needless to say I won't be spending 1.5 hours in the car to take this blind back...and I won't ever be shopping in Paul Simon again , but I am interested to know whether I am being fobbed off here.

Thanks

You are only entitled to a refund if the item is faulty, anything else is at the store's discretion.

I know some stores here (whether right or wrong) will refund on production of the card it was bought with (as the numbers will match etc).

It may be that they've had past instances of people buying on stolen cards then taking them back for refunds onto different cards/cash?
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
