Help between Vax or Dyson vacuum cleaner

Hi,
I am looking to buy a vacuum cleaner. Has anyone had experience between the vax zen vacuum cleaner and the dyson dc23?
I am looking for one which picks up the dirt the best?
And is also easy to clean once it has filled up with rubbish?
Also which one uses less electricity?
Thanks
mkhan

I would highly recommend one with a paper bag. I find they filter out the dust much better, have better long term performance, and emptying them is much quicker and cleaner. I've found bagless, including dyson, to get very dirty inside, needing regular disassembly to stay working, and lots of fine dust goes everywhere when you empty them. Long term running costs are generally lower too, as despite having to buy bags the secondary filters which cost more last a lot longer than in bagless ones which rely on them a lot more to contain the dust. I've also found the life span of bagless cleaners to be pretty bad in comparison. Bag ones are simpler and good ones should last a long time. I don't have any doubts that a low end commercial one with a bag, like a henry, will outlast and outperform an expensive complex domestic bagless model like a dyson, so a much better choice for your wallet and the environment.

As for electric, they should all tell you the wattage, but higher watts generally mean better cleaning so I'd prefer the ones that use more electric. Vacuum cleaners shouldn't do anything significant to your electric bills anyway, I doubt mine is on more than 40 minutes a week and I have a large house. The difference is probably a couple of hundred watts that cost almost nothing. You could also argue that higher power motors pick up the dirt faster so you spend less time cleaning and so use potentially about the same or less electric, and certainly get a cleaner house for less of your own effort.

Adjustable power of some type, even if it's just a high/low setting is the best option though, as it can be difficult to vacuum some things like curtains on the highest power.

I have the same problem with my current bagless LG vacuum cleaner. I have to constantly keep cleaning the filter, I thought the new technology and stuff the dyson or vax would mean I would only have to clean the filter every 12 months or something.
