Ok my mistakes have come to haunt me. I planted 18 lettuces and although I gave as many as I could away I now cannot face a salad.
Courgettes are another thing, I have five large containers of soup in freezer and am still cooking it. I give lots of these away but decided four plants is two to many for the future. I am now sick of the sight of them.
The soup is very good but you can have too much of a good thing. Caulies all matured at once so have dishes of caulie, courgette and cheese bakes in freezer.
Big note to self, GROW LESS you silly woman as there is just the two of us. All my meals have to be planned around what needs picking. Oh for a big plate of egg and chips.:o

Your not alone, this was my first proper year growing fruit and veg. I planted far too many lettuce, lots of different types, instead of planting every 2 weeks or so I did them all at once.
Next year I hope I'm more prepared.2011 Sealed Pot Challenge #1238 hoping for £250 ~ saved £743.32

And I always sow and plant too many lettuces as well
And I'm a bit sick of courgettes, so you're not aloneFreedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
The problem I always have is that if I plant more than required to ensure enough survive they either ALL get eaten by slugs and I wish I'd planted more, or none do and I'm drowning in whatever it is. This year I optimistically planted 2 courgettes only (the number I needed), and have both - I planted 3 of another squash of which I required 1 - and all were eaten.
... there's no winning :-)0 -
Im now officially sick of salad! Oh and rocket is going that way too...... looks like the french beans may go the same way.... Hmm I shouldn't plant so much but I have a habit of just planting things for the sake of it!
Oh well better to get these things than to have to get them in the supermarket.Feb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790 -
The good thing about all this food is that I am saving money. I just buy some meat and all the rest is free. Its a nice feeling to have so much free food and OH is prepared to eat salads and roasted veggies nearly every day. What I do enjoy is the fruit and I shall grow more of this on allotment, nothing compares to a big bowl of fresh raspberries and the strawberries were in abundance this year. Could never eat supermarket ones again. Its all the green stuff I am getting fed up with. Will soon have a glut of squashes as they have all taken and growing all over the place. I have decided to use some of the plot next year to grow flowers, lots of different sorts to brighten up the house.0

Better to have more than enough than less (my motto for everything lol). Why not give the surplus away or sell it at work? You could put them in a box outside your house with a label `pay what you like`.Freedom is the freedom to say that 2+2 = 4 (George Orwell, 1984).

I do give give quite a bit away, never have charged but with all the watering and weeding I do think I grow too much as it takes up so much time. I have parsnips, sprouts, cabbage and swede growing for the winter which I do appreciate as we welcome warm meals but in the summer months we do not need all the caulies, courgettes etc when its too hot to cook. I just need to plant a few things every two weeks instead of having a glut to harvest.0

I have not bought any carrots, onions, spring onions, lettuce, potatoes, greens, tomatoes, beetroot rocket, rhubarb, basil, peppers, strawberries or parsley for months now.
I gave lots of it away to friends and family and they were grateful for it.
Next year i am going to grow flowers and reduce the amount of space that the lettuce and spring onions have.0 -
share share share all the surplus veg you share will come back to you ,we've made so many friends by offering surplus what goes around comes around :T0
