Powder foundations - how to use?!

This might be a silly question to some of you, but it's something that's annoying/baffling me!!

I've just bought this face powder, and it is in a small plastic container, approx. 1 1/2 inches wide. The powder is covered by a plastic lid which has lots of holes in, and I can't remove this cover.

my silly question is: HOW am I supposed to use it? :o

Surely I'm not supposed to try and force the bristles of my expensive brushes through the holes to get to the powder..? I've tried tipping the tub and 'shaking' a small amount of powder out into the top but a) I just get it all over my hands and b) it disappears straight back through the holes as soon as I try and get it on my brush.

How do you use these powders? Am I just being thick here? :D

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Poke a pin inside each hole to unclog it and then tip some into the lid, swirl the brush in the lid to pick up the powder.

Thanks, I've tried doing this but, as my brushes are the same size or larger than the lid, it gets fiddly. Then there's the tipping any excess back into the pot again - seems like a lot of messing about to me! I only ordered it because I presumed it would be a removable plastic cover like one's I've had before, but it is fixed. It is also HALF the size of any I've bought before.

I think I'll have to try shaking it all out into another, spare container - extra faff and there'll probably be some wastage too :(

Hey what powder is it? I've got the collection 2000 one.... What i do is take the brush out of the pot, screw the lid on turn it upside down and shake it. Not as if your making a milkshake hahaha, but quite firm. Turn it back over so it's the right way up and open the lid. Afterwards you can either tap your brush into the powder that's left in the lid or tap it gently into the pot (where the holes are there'll be powder now!) if i do that i gently tap the side of the brush on the lid or side of the pot so that any excess powder goes back into the pot and i dont waste any! It's never messy for me!
    Sorry if that's confusing!

I use a mineral powder foundation. I shake a little into a small bowl - I use one that used to hold pate so it is slightly rounded at the bottom.

When you swish the kabuki brush around it picks up the powder - no mess involved!

Same as Marie_16. (Check if there's a plastic sticker over the top of the holes - first time I bought mineral powder I was going dotty wondering why the powder wouldn't come out, Doh!)
Put the lid back on the pot. At an angle, gently tap the pot so a small amount of powder is shaken through. Turn upright, unscrew lid, there should be powder sitting on top of the layer of holes. Gently swirl the brush into the powder, then tap/swirl the brush into the lid to remove any excess. Apply in circular motions over your face, and you can go back and add more if you need greater coverage. I always do this over the washbasin as small sprinkles of powder usually escape!

    Thanks for the replies.

When I'm geting ready I really don't have time to be messing about tipping bits onto a saucer or into the lid, then juggling with that, and then trying to tip it back in again and I don't want to waste any because there's only a small amount to start with. So, I had a pot of bronzing pearls that I haven't used in months, so I threw the pearls away, cleaned out the pot, and shook all of the powder into the container. Job done, and I can get my brush in much easier as it's a bigger pot :T
