    thanks
i will try and go into branch and ask , as i spoke to barclays over phone . Can i ask how long ago you applied for one ?.
  • I think it depends who your IVA's with - some are much stricter than others. I managed to switch from Nat West (with whom I had a massive loan and 2 credit cards) to Nationwide current account with Visa debit card, a cheque book and online banking just before I began writing to all my creditors. Guess my credit rating was still passable at that point. Our IP has never been remotely interested in our bank account and never asked for any bank statements.

Thanks for your advice , have contacted barclays who have said they will not issue a debit card just a cash card . Also co-op will give debit card but it is elcectron visa which a lot of shops and petrol stations do not accept .

We have just opened a basic current account with the Co-op and we have no cheque book or overdraft facilities but do have a visa debit card. These basically can't be used anywhere there isn't a direct telephone link-up like pay at pump petrol stations and market stalls with card readers not attached to the phone and possibly some smaller internet companies - most will be OK I have used ours in all the places we usually use them like all the large supermarkets and in the shop part at petrol stations and on the internet. This is so that the link-up can check you have funds in your account before taking them out. We don't have an IVA though but are in a DMP.
