Tax credits - confused.com

I've FINALLY got through to the Tax credits as I had a letter stating that I've ticked that personal circumstances have changed but not let them know what these are.

Basically, DH was made redundant in Dec 08 - I told them this. He was on JSA til June 09 when it stopped - I told them this. He started work in April part -time and I rang to advise them but they said this woundn't affect our claim for this year as it was based on last year 09/10 income. (Apparently this was wrong info)!

The chap said they've send me a new letter advising me of any changes.

My question is I thought they work a year behind as they base payments on last tax year for this year so why would they change now if last year DH was only on JSA for 26 weeks the got nothing? I fully expected them to drop next year as this year he is working??

HELPPPPPPPPPP!!

TIA

  • I've just hunted under the bed! and found 2 separate letters dated 26 May 2010 thanking me for advising tax credits of the change in circumstances ie DH now working and what our new payments will be.

So much for the chap I've just spoke to not knowing this!!

    I await their letter . . . .
