Need a kick up the bum to claim back mine from a closed bank account so not sure if I'll have any joy also scared to claim from my bank at the moment because I owe them so much and I'm worried they will ask for it all back at once.

A few months ago I too was sitting here reading of someone's success at reclaiming bank charges and owing around £35k in various debts, much of that to the Halifax. It just made me think that I couldn't be any worse off and what could they do to me? If any bank tries to close your account whilst reclaiming bank charges you have grounds for complaint to the banking ombudsmen, infact banks are not closing accounts since several complaints of this nature have been mad. There is also no evidence to say the banks are demanding they be paid back for current debts. We have used our refund to pay off our halifax overdrafts and bank loan today. However that was our choice, we still have a secured loan and mortgage with them and they are not going to ask us to repay those. They have said in a letter that if we continue to have bank charges for returned dd's and overdrafts then they will consider closing the (bank) accounts. That is not going to happen as we look after our bank accounts like the crown jewels now:D except they are not worth that much:rotfl: !
Go for it! Start requesting your bank statements and work out how much your bank owes you. It is YOUR money, you are not asking for compensation. I never thought in a million years we would get ours back and I almost hyperventilated when I saw our bank account balance last night!

Yes that's what I did today went into town determined to have a 'treat'. I bought some make up spent £32 (2 items but was given a bag of Elizabeth Arden goodies with them) and bought a very cheap bottle of wine £2.99 from tesco. We are also going to go out for a nice chinese meal tomorrow night and have allowed ourselves a budget of £50, the first time since pre LB so that's last year! That's it the rest of the money has been used to pay off debts!
