home insurance

does anyone know of any companies that will give home insurance to discharged bankrupts.
am currently with Barclays, they have accepted me, and the policy is fairly cheap, but I have seen better policies, with lower excess, plus have had an issue with them and would like to move at renewal in September.
I have had home insurance for over 12 years, and never claimed once, so this really infuriates me that I won't even be considered.
Due to my business failing and debts mounting, there was no choice but the bankruptcy, all personal debt was always paid up to date.
found an excellent policy, but once again, they have said no.
I was discharged end of August last year.

Thanks in advance

I used Gocompare and then went with Coverdirect.

Had to pay first 2 months instalments up front and then monthly after that. I am in the unfortunate position of needing to make a claim (looking back I so wish I had chosen a smaller excess!!!) only ever claimed once on insurance about 16 years ago. So I will get chance to see how good they are.

I just renewed my home insurance (contents only) with Swinton, the company they used was Zurich. The quote was superb, and i pay by monthly installments.

I asked Swinton the question if they had a problem with me being a discharged BR (ED July 09) and they checked with Zurich who said as long as i was discharged they didn't mind.

Swinton also offered £40 cash back and free accidental damage cover on certain expensive electrical items, ie, t.v. computers, hi-fi, etc.

I know Direct line also insure discharged BR as i was with them last year, and checked with them too.

    Hope this helps.

don't have a problem with car insurance, and they never ask the question......but home insurance always ask if you or anyone else has ever been bankrupt, and it's a nightmare to find any decent cheap quotes.
  • I Know it was about your home insurance, i meant try co-op for your home insurance, they seem to be competitive at the moment.

Just to say, we got contents with Co-op just this week and it was VERY cheap. Their personal possessions extra even includes mobile phones, that Endsleigh wanted to charge an extra £50 for (before they told us they can't do business with us, despite my OH being a customer for years).
