Haven Holidays Berwick-upon -Tweed

Options
I booked two caravans for myself and family (children and grandchildren).I foolisly believed the promotional video photos etc. when we arrived we found we were put into what appeared to be a partially dismantelled P.O.W.camp. No lovely views, just an ugly 8 ft wooden fence, and the caravans were not what we had been led to believe they would be. What are my chances of getting them (Bourne Leisure Ltd) under the Trade Descriptions Act? I paid a lot of money for shoddy accomodation and services, and am absolutely raging!

    Hi Joannie,

    I understand what you mean.

It doesnt help much, but next time, before you book, you should maybe check out trip advisor.

    Hi,

The problem you have is working out what you should have got, compared to what you actually got & then putting a monetary value on them.

Did you take photos ... how did the carvans differ to what you expected .... did you complain in resort?

  • Hi
I've written a long letter of complaint to the director of Bourne Leisure Ltd, listing all shortcomings, and sent a copy to the manager at Haven Holiday park in Berwick, and generally made a lot of noise. It's too early to say yet, but I don't think I'll get a reply, but it has made me feel a bit better letting off steam. I'll continue to make public what a rip off the place is, you never know, some good may come of it. I'm new to this forum thing, and it's good to know someone's listening!

But don't all holiday companies do the same? I remember pouring over the bochure before we went somewhere as a child - doesn't the pool look fantastic, and massive and look at that lovely sandy sunny beach - then you get there and you are like oh, its a bit smaller than the picture....

    Hi,

You do realise that writing a long letter will just get ignored - you are better to write something short & sweet .... tell them the issues (list them in order & link them to photos), tell them what you want (all money back, 50% back, apology etc), tell when by (14 days, a year, etc), tell them what will happen if they don't comply (county court, run around the block crying, etc).

Keep to 1-2 pages - no more.

We went there when I was a child (aged 11, so about 25 yrs ago!)- loved it then, shame it seems to have gone downhill!
We went to Southerness- a right state it was- but manager listened, and advised us to help him fill in the complaint then so that the case was started- ended up getting 50% refund!

Berwick is a total dump of a campsite, we went a couple of years ago on a Sun holiday (thankfully didn't pay full price) the caravans were filthy -my parents' caravan had water pishing all over the place from a leaking toilet, were moved to one that was filthy then moved to another one that was just about standard. The beach could only be reached down hundreds of steps. It didn't help that the rest of the UK was bathed in glorious sunshine and 25 degree heat but the North East struggled with temps of 13 degrees (not Bourne leisure's fault I know:D) Good luck with your complaint OP -would agree with the previous poster, complain again but keep the letter to a maximum of 2 pages, short and to the point.

The clue is in the company title!

Haven and Holidays should never be used in the same sentence.

Not sure about that, Haven holidays in Rhyl were alright, granted the camp does not offer much, but the accommodation, location and views were perfect. I imagine a caravan site is not much different to a camp site, in that its a temporary place to stay, its the surrounding area you dwell in them for.

Haven in Hopton, Great Yarmouth was fine.

Always but always check Trip Advisor first.

Hopton 66% recommend. Berwick 58% do NOT recommend.
