What kind of prizes?

Options
We're hosting our first fundraising day in a few weeks and we need to buy the prizes for our sideshow games - hook a duck, etc. Its been years since ive been to anything like this so I need some ideas please.

What kind of prizes are given out these days?
Do we need to give consolation prizes?
Anyone know any cheap places to get prizes (I personally think charnwood and peeks are quite expensive).

Any help is appreciated!

  • Consolation prizes - only for very small children.

Poundshops and Publishers World type places often have packs of things for £1 that can be split to give 3 or 4 cheap small prizes. If you have several such shops ask them all to donate £5 worth of prizes.

If your sideshow is 20p a go, and 1 in 5 players win, spend no more than 50p on prize.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

Prize every time stalls go well so it might be worth looking into getting really cheap prizes for something for example if you pull a blue ticket in a £1 a go tombola you win something small like a bar of chocolate if you pull a red one you get a decent prize. People like winning!

free ticket for the face painting stall for everyone who doesn't win a decent prize?

That encourages the adults to get theirs done too, and stay a bit longer at the fun day. Especially if there's a beer tent / picnic area with byob.;)

Depends a) who's doing the face painting and b) whether there are plenty of them, IME the queues were usually pretty long, and if your team aren't very slick it could cause problems. Plus face painting can charge quite a bit - it was at least 50p in my day, I'd expect nearer £1 now, so you're losing that income.

Not to mention that some people are allergic to the face paints!
