I'm having so much trouble with comparison sites.

Currently with Powergen online since 2005 but the comparison sites no longer appear to show two rates for powergen (except UKpower??).

I calculated out my years KWh in gas and electric to make it most accuarate but.....

UKPOWER ONLINE
Claim I currently spend £908 (they show two onlineenergy rates for current supplier)
Best:British Gas saving £20 (but their start price is £104 less than others?)

ENERGYLINX
Claim I currently spend £1012 (they show one onlineenergy rate for current supplier)
Best:British Gas saving £124

ENERGYHELPLINE
Claim I currently spend £1012 (they show one onlineenergy rate for current supplier)
Best:British Gas saving £94

USWITCH
Claim I currently spend £1012 (they show one onlineenergy rate for current supplier)
Best:Npower saving £102

Now I just dont get it, it should be a simple calculation, I have provided the exact usage there is no guessing involved here.

My current rates inc VAT are:

Electric:
primary 16.78 for first 225kWh then 9.63

Gas:
Primary 3.737 for first 1143kWh then 2.972

I just dont know what to do now.

I'm having the same problem as you, Tony, with the comparison sites.

Powergen told me that they were charging me 17.87 primary and 9.10 secondary for Electricity. My gas is 3.559 primary and 2.83 secondary.

Are you sure of your figures?

It really is a minefield. Sorry I can't help unravel the problem.

Nit - your gas figures are identical to Tony's because Tony's include 5% VAT. Mine are all showing similar savings with Br Gas and Southern Electric. Problem is deciding if they are about to increase their prices again.

As you say, its all a minefield. Consumers are supposed to be the winners in this 'free market' but it seems bizarre to me that they are allowed to keep putting their prices up one after the other.

The other 2 surefire winners in this are the comparison sites at £50 a transfer, and good old Gordon Brown who just sits back and lets the VAT coffers roll in.

Thanks guys, I just dont get why they all come up with different figures I gave them my exact usage in kWh so it should be a simple calculation and they should all come out the same.

If you let me have your postcode and the kWhs and I will explain all the results fully.

Since the recent price increase on 6 Sept there is now only one set of prices for Powergen's energy online tariff. Previously there were 2 types of energy online depending on when you first switched on to it.
  • have a similar problem.according to powergen we are on a no standing charge tariff for gas and electricity with 9% discount for paying direct debit

    gas units primary 3.559p(1st 1143kwh) secondary 2.830p

    electricity primary 16.770p(1st 225kwh) secondary 9.200p

None of the comparison sites seem to include this tariff and when i include our annual usage figures for comparison they vastly overestimate how much we pay!

does anyone have any ideas so i can get an accurate comparison? apologies if anyone has posted similar before

Use Kwh consumption instead of costing.

The Tariff that you are on Stuarta21 is the powergen standard Domestic rate.

Sign up online to there website (powergen) and ask to be put on to Energyonline wintersaver for another 7% on top of what your already paying. So your discount would then become 16%.
