help with DD foundation

Can anyone recommend a foundation for my 15 year old DD?
She has a very pale skin tone, the kind that pinks up in cold weather. She also has blue veins visable through her skin she is so pale. More than most in her neck and jawline as she has a rare congenital defect that caused cysts when she was a baby - she has had surgery 23 times and thankfully been able to have 75% of the cysts removed - though the ones remaining push her blood vessels to the surface making them more visable. Otherwise she has fantastic skin, no visble pores, blackheads or pimples.
She's gotten to the age she's decided she needs to wear foundation. I'm not alot of help to her as I have very golden toned skin, don't wear foundation myself and so don't really know where to start. We trawled all the makeup counters last weekend but everything seems to be catered for much darker skin tone or is very orangey. She doesn't want to go to a MAC/other type counter as her big sister had a bad experience there, and won't try the samples out on unmanned counters as they 'look so skanky, everyone has put their fingers in them' - (I can hardly blame her!) In the end we both gave up and came home. She doesn't want to spend alot of money nor does she want to end up with a mask-like look, not asking for alot are we?!
Anyways I thought I'd appeal to your greater knowledge...
Is there a cheap, ivory shaded, light coverage foundation you think would suit?

I was going to suggest Nicola Roberts 'Dainty Doll'. But they seem to of stopped making it, which is a shame.
For medium coverate I would suggest Benefit's 'Hello, Flawless!' It's a powder foundation and they go really light.
Benefit also do a tinted moisturiser called 'You Rebel, Lite'. I find Clinique is nice, but it can be harsh on the skin, if she has no visible spots/blemishes. I think you'd really need to pop back in and go to manned counters. I have had countless free makeovers, and have never felt pressured to buy anything!
I really wouldn't recommend Estee Lauder, I bought the 1.0 (lightest foundation) Double Wear Light and it makes me so orange!
Sorry I wasn't much help, but I hope she finds something to suit her soon

If you use the search facility on here there is a large thread dedicated to this subject and one dedicated MSE'er has tried nearly every pale foundation in existence. It would be worth letting your daughter have a lookIf you always do what you have always done, you will always get what you always got!0

I have very pale skin, most brands don't have colours for my skin, but some that do are...
BobbiBrown, (shade 0)
Mac (NW15) Think they may even go paler then this too.
Maybelline have some pale shades in some of their liquid foundation lines, the satin line and the minerals liquid foundation (all the other lines are too dark).
Benefit have a good erase-a-paste which works well for very pale skin as a concealer.
I would also check out Nars, Shu Uemura, Clinique's liquid foundation and see if you can get any samples.
I am aware that what I have suggested are all premium brands. It is annoying as I have found- the high steet just does not cater for pale skin, it assumes pale is a washed out brassy yellow which it is not (and I have yellowy skin yet they are still too yellow for me!) I have yet to find, with the exception of Maybelline, a brand which makes affordable pale foundation.
Having said all that, the Brands I have suggested are all great quality and should last a while longer then high street brands. Try to see if you/she can pick up some tips with application, so many teenagers seem to plough it on in thick layers and whilst this may be a style thing they do, it can cost alot (and is not always flattering!) Applied correctly- normally little and often, make up can easily go a long way.0 -

it's a great thread - here it is!:happyhear0 -
Elemental Beauty do a good range of foundations which you can order small samples of to try before you buy. If none are right for you they can customise them for you to get one right for your skintone.
As they are mineral foundations they won't look too heavy on your daughters skin and will be better for the health of her skin compared to non-mineral brands.
I've had a pot of their foundation since November and still have loads left even with everyday use. As you only need a small bit it's very good for your purse as well:)2013: Interflora Vouchers, Christmas Decorations, NNUK goody bag, thermos flask, macwet gloves0 -
17 in boots do a foundation I use, 17 Pure Finish Mineral Foundation - Natural. I'm pale as well, tend to say albino people would stand next to me to look tanned :P0

Thanks everyone for their suggestions - much appreciated!
We had another saunter in town today. DD is still adament she doesn't want to go to a manned counter (she can be quite self concious about her looks) nor does she like the idea of mineral makeup though I tried hard to convince her how much better it would be for her. I think I'm going to order a few samples for her anyway and perhaps she'll take to it eventually. I know the first time I heard of mineral makeup I was baffled but now I love it and want to slowy replace all my makeup UU's with mineral versions.
A friend of mine passed on an unused Bodyshop concealer shade 01, which she tried on bits of her face that needed it and it looks lovely and natural. We also liked the look of Maybelline porcelaine and alabaster comes the closest to her natural skin tone. Suprisingly they look darker in the jar but seem to go paler once on the skin. We also may trot along to Bodyshop for input as they are very nice in our local one and not at all intimidating or 'hardsell'. Sadly my older daughter had a very bad experience at the MAC counter a few months ago and it's turned all 4 sisters off going there, just thought I'd add that as an explanation why we didn't go there first as I know they have some amazing makeup there.
For the veins in her neck I've discovered with a letter of recommendation from our GP she can get a free consultation with Irish Red Cross skin camouflage service, where they will match her skin with a perfect shade and show her how to apply a special makeup that can last hours. God bless the Red Cross!:TNo buying unnecessary toiletries 2014. Epiphany on 4/4/14 - went into shop to buy 2 items, walked out with 17!0 -
Buying make up for light skin can be tricky.
I am fair skinned and have found that the Porcelain foundation from lilly lolo doesn't make me look orange.0 -
Maybe tinted moisturiser would be an idea? I'm very pale with a visible vein under one eye and started using the Natural Collection tinted moisuriser to cover it up without swamping the rest of my skin. If I need extra coverage I use an ivory shade concealer and transculent power on top to hold it in place. It's only £1.99 in Boots so might be worth a try. They only have three shades (Fair, Medium and Dark I think) but the Fair has worked well for my pale skin.0
