Transfer from Sky to Primus?

I'm looking to transfer from Sky line rental to Primus to save a few quid of course. The trouble is I type in my phone number and choose current supplier Sky and they tell me "In order to switch your home phone service to Primus Saver, you need an active BT
phone line. Please contact BT directly on 0800 028 4474 and get your phone line
reconnected or installed. There may be a charge for this"

Surely this isn't necessary? If I remember correctly there was something a while back that if you had Sky broadband and line rental they'd transfer you to LLU or similar which could cause problems but I don't have Sky broadband.

If I have to transfer back to BT I can see them trying to lock me in for 12/18 months.

It seems too much of a pain to save not very much!

Another one to be laid at Ofcom's doorstep. They opened up the market but got a few things totally wrong. This is one of them.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Your phone line could have been llu by Sky of course.

Phone BT Customer options and they will probaly give you £36 credit off your bill,if you agree to return your line rental and calls to them . (12 month contract )

My broadband is LLU with O2 so I thought that stopped them doing that with my phoneline? I would have objected if they said they were going to do so as I think I would have got that option if on Sky phone & broadband.
