couple of large cheap rugs to cover as much of the floor as you can. If you move you can take them with you.

What about bog standard draught strip - type you fit to door frames etc? - May not be as asthetic as the expensive stuff but should do the job. - Also you often don't need to do the whole floor just a third to a half nearest the outside wall. - Also important to leave some gaps open if you have a gas fire.

You could try brown or clear frame sealant in the gaps. Some poundland shops sell it.But make sure it is near invisible or very tidy or the landlord might complain.

Try filling the wider and bigger holes with rolled up newspaper before filling with sealant.

I just squirted brown silicone sealant between all the boards, then just got a wet sponger to smooth it all off, remove excess. Then follow up with a damp mop to get any missed. Did the trick grand. Only gets a little awkward if you have a really big gap between some boards, > 5mm ish. 2-3 tubes will do a 4x4m room.

    Hi Daphne
Spamtex has now changed the website as the saving is £20 per room per year and not only £20 for the whole house per year :)

  • As a guide, your living room consumes a quarter of your total heating costs. The floorboard gaps in a typical 3.5x3.5 metre room(12ftx12ft) will amount to 1/4 sq metre(40 sq inches) - equivalent to a wide-open window. Nobody can afford the cost to themselves or the planet of heating a living room with a wide-open window 24/7. That is why STOPGAP floorboard draught seal was developed in 2004. It has been solving this previously-insurmountable problem ever since. The typical cost of treating a room with this product is £40 and you can expect to recover this within one heating season. STOPGAP can be fitted by anyone, without tools, in less than one hour. For 3 years to March 2010, STOPGAP was also known as Gapseal. visit stopg-p co uk for details or contact me through the website.
