Aubergine
I have been nurturing an aubergine plant and it has one fruit about 5" long. Last night I saw that a chunk had been bitten out of it. The plant is in a pot and on some greenhouse staging outside about 4' high so it is not slugs or snails.
Any ideas? The rest of the plant looks OK

More likely squirrels (Tree rats)
Note - Squirrels don't like chilli so a light dusting of this on the plant will deter them from mucking with it.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Thanks for replies - I don't think it was rats or squirrels because of the positioning of the pots. To get to the aubergine the other pots would have been disturbed0

I wouldnt rule out slugs and snails. Found four big slugs and three snails
up my eight foot bamboo canes for the beans. They were only about a foot from the top. Was very supprised as I always thought slugs could not climb.Slimming World at target0 -
Only one fruit on your plant and its being eaten, thats terrible! Definitely slugs and snails, lets hope they stay away from mineYou can bury a lot of troubles digging in the dirt

I'd also go with slugs/snails - I was bringing in some of the more delicate plants from the greenhouse overnight as they were getting attacked... although once they've made the long trip up they often stay up there... so I make sure that those particular ones never do it again ;-)0
