Car insurance claim query

I had my son as a named driver on my insurance. In January he was involved in a bump and we had to claim on the insurance.I am shortly to renew my insurance and am changing insurance companies.Do I have to declare this as me having made a claim, even though it was my son who was driving and had nothing to do with me?

  • You answer the question for each driver on the policy

have you made a claim - no
has your son made a claim - yes (only relevant if hes staying on the policy)

It will actually depend on how the question is worded as you are the policyholder - you as the policyholder have made a claim on your insurance policy and the circumstances were that your son was driving.

Make sure that you read the questions carefully so that you can establish exactly what you are being asked rather than just assuming that the questions on the form relate to each driver.

This might sound pedantic, but you as the proposer are responsible for answering the questions asked, and proposal forms are all peculiar to the individual company so you cannot assume that the questions all ask exactly the same!

It is a claim for you and an accident for him. Most insurers word the question in a way that you both will need to disclose for the next few years.

No, you still have to declare it. But it goes down under your name as a NAME DRIVER CLAIM so it shows you weren't driving.

Or, if he's still on your policy it goes under his name.
