Yeah, because it was "for charity" (even though the OP chose not to make direct donation), rules should be bent and sensationalist thread titles are OK.

    I'm probably just "evil".

I have made a few donations with my Cap1 CC via justgiving.com, race for life was one of them, and not had any charges.

I bet if you made donations to the Bookmakers' Benevolent Society through Ladbrokes they'd charge you!

They are donations. The OP was buying raffle tickets.

Justgiving must be coded as a purchase, also note that with the Capital One case mentioned above Children with Leukaemia will have received the full donation (as the sender paid the charges), with Just Giving the charity pasy the charges so receives a lower donation.

"It’s only when we receive the Gift Aid that we charge our 5% fee, along with credit/debit card/PayPal charges, and send the rest to the charity. If you are not a UK taxpayer and we can’t reclaim Gift Aid, our fee comes out of your donation."

Normally, I hate the way people have a one sided opinion to big companies.

But come on people, it was for charity!!!!!!!!!

Nobody is disputing that, and I'm not "supporting" Cap1 / any other "Big company" when I say this - they did exactly what the customer asked them to do when the customer signed the credit agreement.

For capital one not to apply the cash advance fee for the gambling transaction, would have been a breach of the T&C.

The retailer is to blame here, as they should have advised the customer against using a credit card due to the transaction going through as cash. The reparation should be sought from them, not the card provider, who were only complying with the contract.
