Waitrose/John Lewis Partnership Card

Hello,

OH and I went to Waitrose today for a top up shop as we were near our local one anyway. We took advantage of the hand held scanners which incidentally are good fun to use.

We were told at the check out that to make the checkout process even quicker we would have to have one of their partnership cards. We didnt sign up there and then but have taken a leaflet which explains the ins and outs.

My question is, does anyone else have one and if so do you think it's worth having? you can it seems earn points for what you spend on the card and receive vouchers. £5 per 500 points. We would of course only use the card for our food shopping and pay it off each month.

What do people think? thanks

What card is this? Is it a credit card of some kind? We've had a John Lewis Account Card for years (which you can use in Waitrose) but they've never told us about points and vouchers. Must be something new, perhaps.

It's a credit card that's been around a few years. I was working at John Lewis Oxford Street at the time of launch and there was pressure to encourage John Lewis/Waitrose Account Card holders to switch. Normally people who still have account cards now are those who refused to switch rather than those who don't know!

I found the hardest ones to get to switch were those with very old cards still bearing the name of their local store before they were all re-named as John Lewis eg. Bonds in Norwich, Heelas in Reading, Trewins in Watford etc.

I also didn't know you could use the hand held scanners without having a card, in fact i'm pretty sure i was told i couldn't use them when i tried to once. Things must have changed since then, it was a while ago.

Ah, that's us then. When John Lewis took over the old Welwyn Department Store we took out the account card and still have it as 'John Lewis Welwyn' with the full address of the store on it. Didn't want any more credit cards. We did the same with M&S and still have their Chargecard. They in fact sent out new credit cards unsolicited (and got their knuckles rapped for it). We sent them back. Thanks for the reminder!
