Budget train from Oxford to Exeter
I am thinking of going on a working holiday with a friend to North Devon, and we don't want to take the car for environment reasons. We wondered if it's possible to get a budget train ticket to Exeter from Oxford? They appear to cost around 60 pounds each, which seems excessive. Cheaper to take a car!
We will go off-peak and are likely to need open return tickets.
I've already searched Megatrain without success.
Any help would be much appreciated.

As you want flexible tickets try splitting the walk on fare at Swindon(wilts)
Oxford to Swindon Super Off Peak(Not via Reading) £13.90
Swindon to Exeter St Davids Super Off Peak £37.70
Total return for 1 £51.60
Just make sure that the train you catch stops at Swindon (you don't need to get off, just that the train calls there)
Super Off peak valid on certain Off Peak services and return valid for 1 month
