If that is the case how come my OH is the one that did my quote for me and he is one of the 50 staff that work on the student grants unit and has done for 5 years???

I have no idea when it comes to your entitlement.
I was correcting you when you said the OP can claim up to 85% of their childcare costs even though they have already been turned down for further assitance (ie DA, PLA and childcare allowance) because their oncome is over the threshold.

Just because you're doing the diploma doesnt mean you get maximun entitlement to everything regardless of your partners income.
Only the bursary is non-means tested

  • Hi I'm in the same position

I'm starting the diploma in march and get the none means tested bursary but bursary people said I would'nt be entitles to any dependants allowance and therefore no childcare costs help.

I have a 10 month old son who would be in nursery 3 days a week (cost: £507 a month), my partner earns £18,000 a year and our mortgage is £386.84 a month.

Have I been told wrong because it seems so wrong that I don't get a penny extra even though I'm having more outgoings than ever before??

    Thanks

    Danielle
  • I think if your entitled to student finance which you should be able to get a loan (I think) then you should be able to claim childcare costs through student finance as well ?

I am at Uni and I get a loan and childcare help but I am not doing nursing but my OH has and his colleague got all nursery paid for despite her partner working etc etc

Also, if you cant get any joy from student loans or NHS bursaries I would try to renegotiate your tax credit overpayment down to a smaller amount, once they know your income will go down they may allow you to pay it off for longer at a small amount

Your bursary doesn't count as income for child tax credits (or working tax credits) you aren't entitled to help with the child care through tax credits but it is just calculated on your other half's earning which may increase your income (even with the overpayment)

You also get 25% discount on council tax with you being a fulltime student,

When I did my training one girl on my course changed her morgage to interest only for the 3 years
