GMAC Car Finance - theives!!!!

in Loans
Just wanted to make everyone aware of the disgrace of a company that is GMAC, who financed my car. I have been to hell and back with them over the past few days. I was able to hand my Vauxhall Corsa back to GMAC due to reaching half-way through the loan agreement. It had a couple of dents in, and I was conscious that it was going to be inspected. I didn’t want to be charged any extra, so I paid over £200 for the dents to be beaten out and the car resprayed and valeted. The car was in pristine condition when it was ready to be handed back. Not in GMAC’s eyes though. An independent inspector came to pick the car up and check it over. After looking at it with what appeared to be a magnifying glass for an HOUR (bear in mind it’s only a small car!), he came to the conclusion that there was £1,300 worth of damage to the car. He noted minor scuffs and dents, which weren’t visible to the naked eye. There were some small scratches on the alloys but after having the car for 2 ½ years anyone would have put them down to wear and tear. I had a choice to make on the spot. Either he took the car away and I had to pay that amount, or he left the car there and I had to pay a £90 ‘aborted pick-up’ charge and I’d have had to go round garages getting the work fixed. However if I made that choice, how was I to know that any work I had done would meet their outrageously high standards?! So in the end I got him to take the car away and I’ve now had to dip into my savings to pay off these thieves. Absolutely fuming. Has anyone else found themselves in this position with GMAC or any other car finance company? I’d whole-heartedly say that please please please DO NOT deal with this company – THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF AND TAKE YOUR MONEY!!

There is a guide for condition of cars under leases returned. This would have been a good test for you.
I would say though that £200 to get the car fixed resprayed and valeted is nothing and probably not a very good or comprehensive repair.
What you need to remember is the car has to now be sold on and those buying it will expect it to be in reasonable condition; if it isnt it sells for less and why should Gmac take the hit for your crap driving.
I wouldnt expect you to be honest now as clearly you would prefer to slander the company but here is the guide. Can you really say your car was reasonable?

^^ bit tight that.
I returned a car many moons ago (1995 or so) and Welcome or some other bunch of shysters tried this little trick on me, luckily the car had already been sold at BCA so they were unable to prove the work needed doing and I got away with it. Thing is, I genuinely returned the car in better condition that when I was sold it.
This seems to be a scam most of these firms do to make up for the shortfall in returning the car early."We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -

I have little sympathy as VT is mainly used by muppets who take out loans with dodgy credit companies that they cant afford then expect everyone else to take the loss for it.0 -

Fair enough I suppose, the op does seem very angry though so she / he obviously thinks they have been ripped off, deffo a bee in their bonnet etc etc"We want the finest wines available to humanity, we want them here, and we want them now!"0 -
thanks everyone for your comments. at the end of the day there's nothing i can do about it now and it's a lesson learned never to use a car finance company again. i had the car for 2 and a half years and after that length of time it's never going to be absolutely spotless. i consider myself a careful driver and the dents i got fixed weren't my fault (not going into why i didn't claim insurance etc...). the main reason for my post though was to warn people about this company because i wouldn't wish my experience on my own worst enemy.0

Oh is that right?
Voluntary Termination is built in to a contract to help protect consumers. Many people have changing circumstances, especially in tough financial times like we are now experiencing and VT provides a welcome relief.
I carried out a VT last year due to the fact I moved closer to work and no longer needed the car - but I now realise I should have kept the car, left it unused for months on end and paid the remaining finance to make sure I didn't expect everyone else to take the loss for it. So thanks for making that clear, I now know the error of my ways
