  • Sod the package. I did London - Bangkok return with Oman Air for £365 rerturn in May. Low cost flights around the region start from around £10 with Air Asia or JetStar. You can get a 3* hotel in most places for £20 per room per night. All in, £700 is doable, plus spending money.

And it's more fun to book it individually yourself. Go on... get out there and do it.

Also Air Asia Go which is the hotel arm of Air Asia is very good to book online. We booked Bintang Royale in KL with them and got a good deal (still shop around though) I found with AA Go is that all the room categories are not on the same page... often when you search further the same hotel comes up again with the next room category. This is a bit annoying as if you'd have given up you would never know the hotel offered more than first shown.

Both the Puri Santrian and it's sister hotel Griya Santrian in Sanur are really nice with a healthy mix of all Nationalities. However, the Griya Santrian is in a better position in the 'town' and more central.

I also know Kuoni to be one of the more expensive companies, might be worth trying someone like Thomas Cook Signature or Gold Medal too, just to see how prices compare - it's definitely worth shopping around for something like this. Again, your agent would happily do this and try and find you the best costing.

Miamoo, please do not discount Kuoni. They often have special offers which make them better value and cheaper than the likes of Thomas Cook own brand holidays (for example). There are no prizes for guessing who Ross TCX works for and I suggest his information may be a tad biased!

Ross TCX you need to abide by the Travel Agents code of conduct and put the necessary details in your signature.

We stayed at the Griya Santrian and then treated ourselves to a few days at the Maya Ubud; I would happily recommend both as lovely properties.

    Incapuppy,

I wasn't suggesting Miamoo disregards Kuoni as they are a good company whom we use for many holidays we book - all I was saying was that from experience they're not always the cheapest and it's definitely worth shopping around. I'm not being biased, just trying to help the OP find the best possible deal for their holiday.

    Kind regards,

Using Kuala Lumpur as a first destination Air Asia offer low cost fares accross all of south east asia, Air Asia also fly from Stansted to KL.

Much depends on what you are looking for. You can fly from KL to Langkawi whichis stunning and then get a ferry to Penang and fly back to KL

Malaysia is generally very safe and most people speak English.

We flew to Cambodia and spent a week there visiting the capital and Angkor Wat and then back to Kl and Langakawi

OP, is there any way you could extend your holiday as it's a lot of hours travelling especially if you are doing a twin centre? We had 10 nights in Hong Kong at Easter and didn't feel it was too long there. We broke the stay up by staying 3 nights on Kowloon, 1 night in Macau and 6 nights on Hong Kong Island and this worked well for us. This time allowed us to get off and see lots of the smaller islands which we felt gave us a feel for the real HK. Each day's experiences were different. As we did so much in our time there, we did say it would have been nice to have had a couples of days relaxation somewhere at the end of it. Mind you, saying that, I would have wanted to go off and see what there was to see at the new place!

Re hotel prices, we used Priceline for the Kowlown hotel - approx £85 (incl taxes - 5*), approx £45 for the Macau hotel (3*) and £106 for the HKI hotel (4*). The latter two were via the ICH/Holiday Inn Friends & Family link on this forum.
