I recently satyed at a hotel in Brussels and was pleasently surprised at their environmental policy which was made clear through a brochure in the bathroom.
The main things that stand out, as apposed to the usual towel policies you get are:
"when leaving newspapers and/or magazines on the floor next to the waste basket- these will be added to the paper waste."
"batteries can be left at reception for recycling"
"if you close the windows when air conditioning is in use, it will save on energy"
"please inform housekeeping if you wish to keep you bed linen"
the toilet had a flush cut out on it, rather than a two step flush.
They had a "green team" comprise of 10 people from different departments.
I found it pleasing that a hotel would take a pro-active outlook on the environment as there is too much waste in the hotel industry.

The hotel I stayed in in Amsterdam this year had got worse than last year. They replaced the towels every day even though I hung them up, and they replaced the half-used bottles of soap and shower gel too.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0
