that's just crazy. i know extra weight means more fuel, which means higher cost to them. but what about those who love duty free?

forexample say if a lady went through with a medium handbag and brought a few boxes of ciggy and a couple of bottle of alchol etc. she wouldn't be able to put handbag in the shopping bag vice versa!
If her handbag can fit in the carrier bag or vice versa and the bag is within the size and weight limit no problem, if its too large/heavy no go.

the likely hood of a normal handbag sized being able to fit within the plastic carrier would be slim, have you heard or seen of people given the NO GO.

hand baggage allowance 55x40x20cm. 20cm is quite narrow though if it was one of those small trolley case

Mum of two here. I think you will be fine. It is after all an hour's flight. I would stash two nappies and a travel size wipes, in a ziploc bag on the front zip compartment of your hand luggage, if you have one. Just before boarding, take it out and ram it into your jeans back pocket. That way you won't have to take down your hand luggage from the overhead compartment.

Too late I guess, but you can get carry covers for car seats, like a waterproof PE bag with a drawstring at the top. A couple of my friends have put extra stuff in the car seat, one even added a bumbo, then put it all in the car seat cover. I know kiddicare used to sell them, but I'm sure that a bin liner & parcel tape wd work. Although of course not easy to get to thinks during the flight... [wanted to insert embarrassed face smiley here, but couldnt...]
Btw purchases from duty free should NOT be counted as part of in your hand luggage.

Have seen plenty measured and weighed at boarding gate at Alicante Airport, they have either thrown stuff in the bin, or paid to have bag put in the hold.

that's bad. the amount of people who don't fly often or read the small print must get stung bad. i've seen so many people buy cigarettes and booze etc.

i for one won't be buying neither, but with baby gear on board and thinking of buying some magazines and bottled water and snacks etc. got to make sure it all fits then.

Ryanair print the warning in large letters on your boarding pass. Therefore there is no excuse about 'I didnt read the small print'

very true, but my parents (old folks) don't travel often and english isn't there first language, so for someone in this category they wouldn't really think about if they were to travel with ryan air, but now i know this i can pass on the information to family if they do decide to travel with RyanAir
