...But you guys have more experience of this sort of thing than anyone...
I will soon be applying for 2 new Current accounts as well as another credit card. I'm aware of the need to space CC applications out, my last one was at the end of June and I was going to wait until late September for the next one. I'm wondering how the current accounts will factor into this. I don't require overdrafts, but presume that they will still involve some form of credit search. The CC and one current account will be with Halifax (see previous thread about cycling cash though accounts), the other current account will be with the new Metro Bank.

Being accepted for a current account seems much more likely than being accepted for a credit card (i.e. I've only been turned down for a current account once - 1996 - but have been refused 'credit' more often than not lately) So the thing they probably look for in the credit check is evidence of actual credit delinquency not how much you currently owe (etc).....under construction.... COVID is a [discontinued] scam0

Thanks. I'm not so much concerned about acceptance criteria, though. My history is flawless, my income decent and I'm not over-commited anywhere. Applying for any of these products individually I would expect to be accepted. What I was trying to get at is whether the credit searches for setting up the the current accounts count in the same way as applications for credit cards or loans, and if therefore they should be spaced out so I'm not seen to be making too many applications in a short time period. (I'm actually in no need of extra credit at all, I just want these products for overseas spending and cashback.)
I thought I'd ask the Stoozers, as they probably have more experience of making lots of applications than anyone.0 -
At the moment I have 13 current accounts. If I hadn't closed some down (FD, A&L x 2, Co-op, et al which were opened purely for incentives/offers etc) I'd have nearly 20. In my experience, they've never affected credit card application acceptances/limits...possibly because I don't normally* take overdrafts?
Re your Halifax account applications, in my experience (twice over the last three years or so) if you apply in branch they can lump your credit card application in on the back of the current account application, meaning only one credit search is made - and that's tagged "application type: current account"...even better!!0 -
