Returning a car to a garage to fix the same fault twice
Hi
My car broke down 8 months ago and I paid a garage to fit a new crankshaft sensor. It has just broken down again and I have had the RAC out to it and it is showing that it is the crankshaft sensor again.
Can anyone tell me what my specific rights are regarding another repair, as in would I have to pay for labour or are new parts guaranteed for a specific length of time?
Thanks

the part should have 12 month warranty with it and if faulty the labour should be covered aswell.
what car is it and was repair initially done at a dealer or independant garage?0 -
Fitted with OE part?
There is usually a 2 year parts & labourwarranty with OE stuff, so all you'll need to do it take to the relevant dealer with your receipt, and they'll fit a new one FOC.
Question is though, why has it gone a 2nd time? Mis-diagnosis by RAC? That may cost you some money, as if it wasn't the sensor that was faulty you may have to pay for the issue that has caused the sensor to fail. How was the diagnosis made that the sensor was at fault a 2nd time?:A Luke 6:38 :AThe above post is either from personal experience or is my opinion based on the person God has made me and the way I understand things. Please don't be offended if that opinion differs from yours, but feel free to click the 'Thanks' button if it's at all helpful!0 -

Fair point actually, the original fault could just have been stored in the ecu for the last 8 months if it wasn't cleared correctly.
However both crank and cam sensors are regular failers on many cars.I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
If its the CPS then chances are as soon as the car cools down, you'll be able to continue on your journey. Until the next time.0

Hi
Thank you for your help. In the end I took it back to the garage and it conked out. It was the crankshaft sensor again so the garage replaced it free of charge while I waited. Car is running fine again.

the original fault will not have stayed in ECU for that long,if a fault is repaired the code will remain in ECU until reset or it has had 40-60 ignition switch ons fault free code is then self cleared.
glad it was sorted FOC by dealer.0
