I need help in pricing up a fencing job for my husband please, he gets these only occasionally and is never sure where to set it at to be in with a chance!
the materials cost us £600 incl vat, is it advisable to mark up on this?
its a double fence, 22m, so its 16 posts, and includes one gate being built.
any time scale ideas for the work, one person only?

I use £45 a linear metre as a rough guide for 6ft high post & rail fencing.
You're paying a tad too much for materials too £450 should be more like it if we're talking a timber fence.
And if your 'husband' needs to ask how much to charge he's in the wrong business surely?

Thanks Nailgun.
As I said, he gets these jobs occasionally, he is perfectly capable and experienced, just not up to speed on the competition. the wood is from a builders merchants where he gets best prices as a reg customer, £1 each for slats 19x100mm 1.8m
£3.50 for fence posts
80p per backing rail 3.6m.
Cant see it being much less elsewhere really.0 -
Also what would you charge for the gate being built?0

The gate is added into the price, assuming its a standard gate made from the fence materials?
Its quicker to make a gate than erect a metre of fencing.
£1000 for everything, its not extorsionate, but its also not cheap, a good job should be rewarded.
