What do people think of this? http://www.richersounds.com/product/av-receivers/onkyo/txsr307/onky-txsr307-blk would I be able to use this in conjunction with my X530 to achieve surround sound?

I have the Onkyo TXSR-308 amp. Gets good reviews. Its as good as the then top end (12 years old) Panasonic it replaced.

i think it is really shocking how tv speakers are so much more expensive than pc speakers.

for £200 you can only get normal tv 5.1 surround speakers, on the other hand you would have the top of the range, of the most luxurious 7.1 pc speakers available...

if your tv has a 3.5mm aux output i would look at pc speakers instead!

And there's a reason why. PC speakers are nowhere near comparable with £200 5.1 TV ones.

At the weekend I bought a cheap 5.1 system from Asda, was thinking of using the speakers and sub with an amp but they already have preconnected cables with them (coax I believe), to make them work with the amp would I need to remove these cables and replace them with speaker cable or just remove the plugs? If their not suitable I might just take them back.

If the speakers have co-axial leads going into them, that suggests they have internal amplifiers, and you won't be able to connect them to the speaker outputs of another amp.

Have you got this system working with your TV?

At the moment I have it plugged directly into my Sky HD box, using the coax leads but the sound only works through all 5 speakers on normal mode.

Tell you what Steve, if you've got them set up, have a listen to a decent DVD. Then goto Richer Sounds and ask them to show off any cheap Surround amp they have out. THEN you will KNOW that you must take that Asda crap back!
