My vista machine will not connect to the internet but only to the local network.
i know my router is definitely connected to the internet as my mac and iphone are picking up wireless and connecting to the internet.
I have tried repairing the connection on vista
I have tried resetting the router
have tried logging into safe mode
none of the above have worked...can the techies please show some light ?
Many thanks

I have this before and the only way to connect was to reboot the pc. Not ideal I know, but I can't remember what the permanent fix was.
Do you use ZoneAlarm as you firewall as I have a vague recollection that it might have been that conflicting with Vista? I dumped it and installed Comodo and haven't had a problem since.0 -
Hi THanks for your reply. I have rebooted a few times but that hasnt done it. I do have kasper firewall but have disabled that (that was installed a long time ago before this issue today)..v strange
Any others..?0 -
Are you getting an IP address from the router ususally 192.X.X.X or 10.X.X.X or 172.X.X.X??? or are you getting the 169. APIPA address?
Can you ping the router or you Mac/iphone?
It might be a DNS issue.
You can always go to command prompt (Start--Run--cmd) and type in ipconfig /flushdns then ipconfig /regiterdns
Post an ipconfig /all output for us?
hope this helps0 -
Thanks for your reply. I have tried that but it does not seem to have done it. Output of ipconfig /all below. It looks like it still thinks it dos that I am at my friends home (who has a wireless network called 'home')..however mine is called 'belkin123' which does not seem to be appearing in the output below:
Also I cannot seem to ping my router either (192.168.0.1)..

this is a known and long-standing problem with vista unfortunately. There are many solutions online, and some work for some, others for others, i.e. there is no single definite fix it seems. One of the most effective fixes I've found so far is to go into your network connections, right-click on the one you're trying to use (wired or wireless), properties, and untick ipv6, save the settings and reboot the pc......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......
I have a dodgy "i" key, so ignore spelling errors due to "i" issues, ...I blame Apple

Ah man..damn Microsoft..have been trying all sorts of things but nothing so far..it does pick up Internet on wired connection but not wireless...if you folks have any other ideas please share...many thanks0

have you tried uninstalling the wifi card, then rebooting and letting the pc find & re-install it yet ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

...and have you got the most up-to-date drivers (from the manufacturer's site) ??......Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

This can't work. Did you really get this IP via DHCP from the router? Maybe you changed some settings in your router and specified a wrong DHCP range.
Also check whether you really have DHCP enabled on your PC. If you can't find the mistake, change your IP address to a (unused) static one within the IP range 192.168.0.x.0 -
well spotted tron
must admit, just glanced over the settings
