  • why not do something completely different? Guaranteed to open your eyes to different walks of life...to make you a stronger person...to give you confidence and a sense of community.....I have many friends who volunteer in this capacity and they wouldnt change it for the world!!!

    Its challenging, different and sociable!!!
    Happy to be Debt Free!!!
  • Thanks for that, I'd seen that mentioned but hadn't looked closely at it but it seems quite interesting. I might look into that further if I don't have any luck with the stuff being sent from the local volunter centre (the lady there has taken this as an opportunity to sort out some new things she's had in so I thinking I'm going to get quite a few options sent to me)

Really want to get stuck into something asap so I hope it arrives soon and that she sends me something I can actually do!

Another thing, going back to your comment about the Scouts, is that they have an Explorers section for the over 14s. They're expected to plan their own programme (with guidance!) etc, and generally you'd expect better behaviour from them than you might get from Beavers or Cubs - or even Scouts! A bit less rowdy ...

But hope you find something that suits you. And good for you!

i am a volunteer for the family charity Home Start

    have a look here http://www.homestart.org.uk/ :)
  • A friend of mine in the forces volunteers on a early response ambulance service which really interests me but unfortunately I can't find anything similar where I live.
St John's Ambulance? - Royal National Lifeboat (early response- presumably they need qualified first aiders/medical type posts). Fire Fighter? Territorial Army?
Basically I'm looking for voluntary work but am worried I won't be able to cut it with the more mentally challenging options there are around.
Doesn't sound pathetic- Samaritans? (Is phone contact ok?)

Try this for list of opportunities-
