Can no claims be 'split'?

Hello,
Probably a silly question but we aren't sure and would appreciate a bit of help.
My mum has insurance on her present car due for renewal in 2 weeks - renewal schedule states '9 years no claims'.
She is going to be getting a second car this week so will need to take out insurance for this car too.
We are going to do quotes/comparisons onlinee tonight before she goes ahead and buys the second car but my question is can the 9 years be split between 2 policies? I realise there are companies doing the multi-car thing and we will try them also but just not sure how it works with other companies.
cheers

No, You can try for a 2 car policy but they will presume the policy owner is fronting. They
will ask why 2 cars for one person.
Classic car policy?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

Classic car policy?
Thanks for replying - that is what we guessed but thought we would check.
Will try the 2 car policy thing from Admiral, if not she will have to do new car with zero no claims starting fresh.0 -
Don't listen to forgotmyname, they're talking tosh. I've insured more than one car in my name both classics and non-classics for most of the past decade.
Phone up someone like Chris Knott. They'll find a second car policy that will give you a discount on the second car equal to what you'd get with the NCB on the main one applied to it. It doesn't mean you have NCB on that second car, just that you get an equivalent discount.0 -
I have 2 cars insured and the 2nd one was awarded some "free" bonus on the strength of me having full ncd on the 1st.Both with different companies(Directline and REI)0

@Hammyman, forgetmyname is perfectly correct in what he says, no they will not split the NCB, however they may consider an intro bonus or second car bonus.......depending who is named on the policies.
I have 3 policies in my own name, 2 solo and one shared, so deal with this every year.0 -

You are talking tosh as well. Forgetmyname started off right but quickly ran into drivel when he went on about fronting.0 -

PLease quote the part when I said they would split the NCB? I was saying what they said about "fronting" was utter tosh.0 -
Phone chris knott up and ask them LOL.
Know them well seeing as i am insured with them myself, They will quite easily confirm what i said about a person insuring a 2nd car.
They will think its suspicious if you add a 2nd car and add another driver, As will most companies.
PS getting a discount is not the same as splitting the no claims.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0
