There seem to be two areas of concern.

Firstly, that posting an answer to a query with a signature that your an advisor may look like advice, may lead to business and that is not the purpose of those commenting on here.

This has been heavily discussed on this thread.

Secondly, and of more concern, people could get unsolicited PMs from mortgage advisors who do not post on here but use the site as a way of generating business leads. Which is why I would like to see a warning about this in the signatures.

The warning should be issued officially by the site, not by individual posters in their signatures.
    Trying to keep it simple...;)

Strange isn't it whiteflag, I notice those in skirts seem to agree as well.;)

Skirt is off now, back on at the weekend.

Serious note though, I think that is the way to go, as I have said throughout the thread. Get rid of ambiguous signatures, then there is no accusation of wrongdoing in the open forum. The thing is you see that just because someone says they are a Mortgage Broker does not necessarily mean they actually are, or that they are FSA registered etc etc.

  • So what are we saying now? No signatures, or just a warning on signatures and being cold PM'd from site mods? I'm confused!

Andrew, I'm sure the sheep will be delighted to see you, but be careful you don't frighten them off in your fake sheep outfit.:rotfl:

The site owners will make up their own mind... but would appear "self regulation" seems to be settling on - signatures not be f/s based in any way

    The consensus seems to be

No signatures of the "I am a mortgage broker but this is not advice" variety
Identification of job and link to company website allowed in profile
Absolutely no cold calling/approaches to posters whatsoever
Posters to be warned about dangers of unsolicited approaches and asked to report incidents

    People OK with that?
    Trying to keep it simple...;)
  • Yeah I'm more than OK with it! :)
