Vent- My neighbours!

I am really at me wits end with my next door neighbours and have tried talking to them only to get absolutely nowhere. I'm hoping that someone will offer me a some new ideas on how to approach the problems.

I've been living next door to them for a number of years. They play music till late, my kids go to bed at 7pm but theirs scream around the house and garden till at least 11pm. Their dog is tied up in the garden and barks nearly constantly. I can't even go near my own fence without the dog snarling and looking like it wants to attack me. It killed their pet cat in their lounge a few weeks ago. Their garden is overgrown and the hedge bordering our gardens is used by their children as a climbing frame so they can break down my fence to gain access to my garden and steal or break my childrens toy, bikes etc. Their children use abusive language both to each other and my children. They use my fence as a goal post and kick their 8wk old kitten around the garden even with another adult present. They throw wet mud over my clean washing while it drying on the washing line and rubbish/dirty nappies in my garden.

I am not a fuddy duddy and have children of my own who have never half the they do especially never stolen/broke any toys in their garden. I have really tried to sort this out myself but don't know what to do next.

I hope this is in the right place and any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

I just wanted to add that they have 6 children aged between 11 and 3 years old all crammed into a three bed house.

    Move??

They sound like despicable chav scum. Do they rent privately, own it, or is it housing association?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Definitely chav scam pinkshoes. Seems to be alot of them around nowadays. No chance of moving though, finances aren't brilliant at the moment and their house is housing association.

Thanks for the info Freddie_Snowbits. Am checking it out.

Complain to the housing association. They are getting pretty tough on anti-social behaviour these days.

Complain to the RSPCA about the kitten.

Complain to environmental health about the noise.

Complain to the police about the thefts and damage.

Good for you for trying to sort it out yourself, that's usually best, but when it just doesn't work you can't let them bully you into enduring it. Go on the attack by making lots of official complaints and reports.

  • Hiya Gem, my heart goes out to you, as we had similar problems with neigbours & their mates across the street from us a couple pf years back, all thankfully dealt with now. You should try your own local councils enviromental health dept. as they should have a section which deals with noise pollution etc, which includes noisy neighbours; dogs barking etc. I`m sure they will at least be able to offer you some guidance. Best of luck as I know there is nothing more dispiriting than these type of problems you are facing.

    This is all good advice.

Maybe consider a cheap spy camera? There really is nothing like video evidence.

Definitely complain to the housing association!! Every time they cause any sort of nuisance whatsoever, log it, and phone the HA. The more you complain, the more they're likely to do something.

I lived on a street where many houses were rented to HA tenants. NEVER again! (most were nice, but it only takes one or two chav scum families to ruin the feel of a whole street!). At least with private rentals, most landlords don't want trouble, so will evict a tenant at the end of them fixed period if they're causing trouble. HA tenants require far more persistent complaining!

We have students next door and they change every year - when we have a bad (noisy) group in there are local ASBO Team at the Council have been really helpful.

You could also try your local MP and Councillors.

One year it was really bad here and I wrote to

    The Anti Social Behaviour Office
The Vice-Chancellor at the local Uni
The Local Councillors (all 3 of them)
    The local MP
    Environmental Health (about the noise)

I got sympathetic noises from most of them but the ASBO Team were very active in trying to sort it all out.

I wish you the best of luck

PS We enjoy relative peace and quiet from this year's students - it's wonderful!
