NCB Car Insurance when been 'additional driver'

Hi gang,
Apologies if this has been posted somewhere before, I spent some time searching but couldn't find an answer. If there is one just point me to it
I'm in my mid-30s and for all of my driving life I've been an additional driver on my girlfriend then wife's insurance as the car was always in her name and for some reason always cheaper to do that way around (even though I'm older and no endorsments and low risk - yep, go figure!)
We've now divorced and the time is coming for me to get my own car and my own insurance. I'm looking on the down side that I'll be seen as a new driver and zero NCB even though I'll be able to show I've been the additional driver on policies that are now over 10 years with NCB. My question is - am I correct or are there companies out there that take this into consideration?
Thanks guys, and although I lurk and this is my first post you're all amazing!! :j

Yes most companies will take being a named driver into consideration another example of this is company car drivers- they may need to see proof of this though , hopefully they should even offer you some NCD to start you off.
Don't forget to use this site to find the best comparison search engines and do a complete search of all the companies - may take a little time but the savings will be worth it
Good Luck:jDoing my bit :jCompetition prizes won 2011 ( still waiting )0 -

try using the same insurer as you were a named driver with... they might allow you to use it.0

Some will. I was a named driver on my fatehr's policy for some time- cheaper to insure. Think I was Zurich possibly at the time, they decided to allow me NCB for the years I'd driven with them. When I changed insurers, this carried over.
Agree, talk to the same insurer, they'll be the likeliest.0 -
thanks gang - it's currently with esure and I think technically I am breaking the agreement or law somewhere i.e. car now in my name but insurance in hers even though we're now divorced. I'll search on this site as per suggestion ^^^ and then contact esure for a comparison quote.0
