Know your consumer rights and thanks to MSE

Hi all,

Thanks to MSE, it is important and vital that everyone knows their consumer rights. To illustrate what I mean, below are some highlights of what I have achieved over the last few years :
  1. Boots did not process my USA holiday photos correctly. After numerous escalations, was offered £200 cash as compensation. With money, bought at sales prices, Kodak digital camera and barbecue. Still had money left over.
  2. Got a new fridge/freezer from Apollo2000. Problems experienced after 18 months usage. After repeated escalation and repair engineer visiting my property, got fridge/freezer exchanged for a brand new model with a new 12 months warranty. Please note that original equipment had no extended warranty agreement after 12 months; I just used the Sales of Goods Act to get the new fridge/freezer.
  3. Went on holiday abroad. outward flights delayed and return flight cancelled due to technical difficulties. Got a refund of £199 under EU regulations.
  4. Ad advised in a previous thread on this forum, I used the Sales of Goods Act to get £115 refund for a faulty monitor from PCWorld and used the money to purchase other equipment from PCWorld. I also managed to fix the monitor myself at no extra cost to myself.
My advise is to know your rights, seek advise via MSE if unsure and, hopefully like me, to get results.

Hope the above helps.:):):):):rotfl:

Although to be fair some of these outcomes are because the retailer acted beyond their legal obligations (1,2 and 4; unsure about 3 as know nothing of flight liabilities). Thus, maybe a demonstration of good customer service (or possibly retailers not knowing the law properly and so being over generous).

Well done though; good on ya!

Thanks but not a good demonstration of good customer services. I knew my consumer rights and had to fight for each one until I got a successful outcome to my satisfaction. For example, the Boots photo fiasco. The local store manager originally offered me £50. I refused and she then offered me £100, which I again refused. She advised that she had exceeded her limits of responsibility and so passed me to Head Office. They offered me £120, which I again refused. After a few emails and refusals from me, I eventually got £200.

As I said before, keep fighting and do not accept anything until you got a satisifactory outcome for yourself (and not the store/retailer),:):)
