A and L does, but some people find them rude and when I called they gave me the wrong answer (which cost me 35 pounds until I claimed it back).

I have only had good experiences with Indian call-centre staff, although a lot depends on how well they have been trained, and whether their computer systems allow them to deal with your query.

Personally, I prefer on-line banking and electronic communication. That way, I always have a record of anything they have told me.

    Nationwide have English call centres.

Bank of Scotland have a Scottish call centre so I presume Halifax either use the same one or have one in England :)
  • NatWest have 24-hour UK call-centres, too.

I can highly recommend Nationwide and First Direct - excellent, friendly people who actually know what's going on.

HSBC has people in the UK answering phones during the working day, I think, and then it all gets transferred to India to maintain a 24-hour service.

Smile Banking. And their internet message system is good. Staff are always very poolite in their responses. I have been messing about with my accounts lately after joining MSE but really I'd hate to leave Smile after being with them so long.

Yes, smile have their call centres in the UK - I think we have to make a distinction between call centres that are based in the UK and those based offshore. To ask which have English people working in them is a bit dodgy - I take it the OP meant based in the UK. Let's not forget that all the staff in offshore centres speak English, even though they are based abroad. I'm just being picky.
  • Natwest have 24 hour UK call centres as mentioned, you can also ring your local branch which can be a problem with others, their rates are poor on most products though.

Nationwide have good rates and UK call centres (apparently) but I've never used them (the call centres that is, I do use Nationwide)
