Electrical query - Over head electric supply

I live in a village which has the electric supplied by over head cables. Just after we moved in the electric supply company replaced all the outside wiring with new cables, while they were here I asked one of the engineers doing the work what type of earthing arrangement was used for the supply and he told me it was PME. I have had a look along the street and each post has an earth cable running down it to earth. There are 2 cables going away from each house so the supply is a TN-C-S system. At the moment the consumer unit has a 100mA RCD as an incomer and no other rcd's are present. I would like to get the consumer unit changed to a split load with a 30mA RCD for the ring circuits but will the new consumer unit need a 100mA delay RCD or just an isolater. I'm guessing before the new cabling was installed the house was on a TT system and the RCD was there for that?
Nothing to see here, move along.

  • Ask the REC (electricity supply company) to provide you with a PME earth, then you can get an electrician in to change the consumer unit (and check / upgrade Main earth bonding).

Use an electrician that is registered, with one of the approved bodies.
    baldly going on...
  • Is there a spike outside and is it still being used? Before your meter there is a fuse which supplies your house, is an earth tapped off there? If so your on pme (tn-c-s) and it is a simple switch over.
