Yes - you can pay in cash via HSBC branches.
It should be credited to your account instantly, just as if you were paying into a HSBC account..
From their website:Pay in by post or at HSBC Bank branches
Having your salary paid directly into your first direct 1st Account is easily arranged. You can also pay money into your 1st Account by post or transfer from another bank, as long as you have your account number and sort code. Pop into any HSBC Bank branch to pay in cash.

I don't like First Direct. Because my mother decided to take out the phone line, I can't use my account.
If you have a mobile, you can call 0113 2345678 and it will come out of your free minutes/or cost the same as a normal call, rather than the higher rate 0845 numbers.

You didn't need to search the internet for this landline no. It's printed on the back of the First Direct debit card.0 -

It's even available on their web site.

Examples are:
1. When I switched to FD, they sent me all this lovely literature etc and a cheque book (requested on application), but no paying-in book! I asked why and they said you have to ask for one! Maybe I'm fussy, but surely when you open a bank account, wanting to pay money in is a fairly usual occurrence? It pee'd me off that I had to a) specifically ask for one and b) wait 5 days for it to arrive in the post...................

My FD cheque book contained 25 cheques and 5 paying in slips.
In the 7 years I have had the account I have used 2 cheques and 2 paying in slips.
I consider it reasonable for them not to send paying in books automatically. Why waste money printing and distributing them when a large number of customers won't require more than the 5 in their cheque book?0 -
First Direct call me back if I'm calling international so I don't pay phone charges _b0
