How do I get an "Aux in" jack installed?

Hey guys, hope you're having a nice weekend.

I just bought a Ford Focus Sport 1.6. It has a "Ford 6000 CD" audio, i found a photo online of what it looks like

I can't seem to find the "aux in" 3.5mm jack anywhere in the car, it's not around the audio head unit and it's not in the glove compartment. I'd really like to get one installed, but I have NO idea about how to do it etc - who can I go to to get it installed? My understanding is that this audio head unit CAN support it, so it won't be a case of changing the audio head unit entirely.

Will Halfords do it? What about regular garages?

Thanks for any advice you might be able to give!

No you won't have an aux socket unless a previous owner had it fitted. Normally it will be inside the glove box in the upper left hand corner.

To fit one you need to remove the radio/cd unit and fit the correct cable. My 56 Zetec had the same head unit as yours with no aux socket. Didn't bother as I didn't need it.

Changed to an 09 Zetec and luckily it has one so I can use my Touch.

Go to the Ford Focus Owners Club website. www.ffoc.co.uk

There are a couple of threads about the self same problem. Biggest pain is getting the right keys to remove the head unit

Thanks for that. So the only way to do it would be to do it myself? I'm just worried about screwing something up since this is my first car and I've never "messed around" with this sort of stuff before.

If you go to the FFOC site they have walk throughs on exactly how to do lots of things to your new pride and joy.

I think that the cable may be in the loom already and you only need the connectors at each end.

At the rear of the cd head unit is a multi block connector. The aux cable goes there and then you have a 3.5mm socket wherever you want to fit it.

I didn't do it although I thought about it, so it would pay to go to FFOC or Google it and make sure

ps..make sure you have the code before powering down, as my local stealership wanted £20 to look it up. The code was one of the first things I checked with the newer car..

I tried this - well I was going to.
Turns out my focus stereo couldnt do it but yours might.
There are some you tube videos floating around that show you how to do it step by step with funky music. Just search for focus aux socket install or something similar.
Its sposed to be easy and the parts can be had for less than £20.

If your radio doesnt allow it then only option is to buy a new stereo and a blanking plate off ebay.

Or buy a focus radio from the same mk car that does have AUX then no need to fanny around with dash plates that all way look al ful and loose the steering wheel controls.
  • Ask your nearest car audio dealer. You need a cable from the back of the stereo, to a flying minijack socket. Plenty around, it won't cost more than a few quid. Maybe a tenner extra if you want it fitted.

Yes but Pew Pew did say an audio specialist not Halfrauds...:rotfl:

They probably need instructions on how to open the car door first.

    this is what you need.

it plugs into the existing multiplug on the back of the stereo, then just feed it out of your dashboard somewhere near the drivers seat and where you would like the ipod to sit, plug the ipod in,hit the AUX button and play your music.

ive got it factory fitted in my transit, its fitted into the left hand side upper storage compartment on the dashboard,i just run the lead out near me so i can use it.
