Wireless printer, silly question?

So as not to irritate anyone I tried looking through the beginning of this section at "Wireless - Look Here" in the stickies (what does that mean?). I am trying to set up a Dell wireless printer to talk to a Sony laptop but got stuck half way when I put the Drivers & Utilities DVD in. The size of the DVD instructions prevented me clicking NEXT and I could not reduce or move it up/down.
The thing that is puzzling me is that there are many references in the stickie to the
router. Will someone please confirm that the router will not be involved in what I am trying to do i.e. laptop to printer, and, that the word "network" can be ignored. This refers to more than one computer to the printer doesn't it?

You need to change your screen resolution to enable you to fit more on the screen (at least temporarily). You can do this by right clicking in the blank space of the desktop and choosing properties, settings and drag the screen resolution slider up.
I think you are confusing yourself as to how this wireless printer will work. I assume you have a wireless router and a wireless network setup in your house. In all cases the data is not going to go directly to the printer it will always go through the wireless router. The word network cannot be ignored as to get your laptop to connect to the printer it HAS to pass through the wireless router. If my post helped you in anyway, please hit the "Thanks" button! Please note any advice I give is followed at your own risk!0 -
Thank you very much Trini. Just had my SinL and extremely bright GS here trying to sort it out but they could not find a way to reduce that page on the disc to allow "NEXT" to show. They spent ages trying to sort it all out but did not try the screen resolution (don't think so anyway).
They had to give up anyway because, although I have a number of stored numbers/passwords/admin pw/passphrase for the router none of them worked. My SinL even tried them on his iphone and none worked. I am lucky to have such good teckies in the family! Now I will have to see if AOL who gave me the router will be able to help. I must have a wireless printer. The others won't do for me now - health problems/stairs too much to explain.0 -

re the router are you saying you have forgotten the password for the router, if so you can reset it to default settings0 -
Yes DFC I was reading about that this morning.Right now I am waiting to see what AOL say but believe it will be the same as your response.I am beginning to regret buying this wireless printer and hope if it is not sorted soon they may take it back (Argos). In my master record book I have a series of numbers under ROUTER.One is clearly marked password and another is called Admin P/Word under the part referring to Wireless Network Name. None work.
Still got the problem with the page on the disc. My GS even used the tab button to make the following page appear but, of course, this did not help with, apparently, the too large page.0 -
What model of Dell printer is it?
Have you connected the printer to the Laptop via the usb cable for initial setup? (some need to be set up via usb first)
have you checked the dell website?

I am also with AOL and using the supplied Router (speedtouch). Check the bottom of the router for the password (likely to be 11 digits) -See if that works.0

OP, if you can't see the 'next' box, you need do what is posted here - changing the screen resolution will make the viewable area bigger and you can see the 'next' box then.
Either that or hit just return. If that doesn't do it, start again, then right arrow key then return0 -

The model is V305w.
I will have a look at the Dell website.I just hate buying new equipment especially when I have to ask for help from others in the family.0 -

Neither of your first suggestions work. I will try the third suggestion as soon as I can.0 -
Have a look at this: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/peripherals/f/3528/p/19297428/19564464.aspx#19564464
See if it is a similar problem to yours?
Look at this as well, an online version of the DVD manual.
