Dell laptop battery - best replacement?

Hey,
For months now I've been getting a 'your battery can change normally but is reaching the end of it's useful life' message on my Dell laptop everytime I powered it up (the laptop was slightly less than 12 months old when it first happened, not overly impressed...). Yesterday the message changed to 'your battery is dead, buy a new one' (or words to that effect) with a helpful link to the Dell site.
The official Dell batteries seem a little expensive to me, does anyone have any experience with 3rd party batteries and know of a suitable replacement? This is the first laptop I have owned and I don't want to damage it by using an unsuitable replacement.
Any help/advice/suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Adam.

Oh, and it's a Dell Studio 1737, not sure if that's relevant?0

avoid Ebay, most batteries there are from hong kong and can be dire. I recommend eurobatteries.com (UK based, so you get your rights upheld if anything goes wonky)IT Field Service Engineer, 20 years with screwdriver and hammer0

Agree with rdpro, avoid Ebay like the plague for laptop batteries very poor quality batteries ( often reflected in low price). I have bought from Duracelldirect (UK based) before and not had any problems with my battery.

I've just dregged this thread up from the murky depths as I have the same problems at the OP (with a Vostro 1710) and have been wondering how to get a reliable, cheaper replacement. Many thanks to the guys who have replied, and if anyone has any more up-to-date information, it would be seriously appreciated! :beer:Please call me 'Pickle'
