I have a perfecly good freeview reciever whci is unused as I have sky. Does anyone know if its possible to connect to my laptop (rather than buy one of those usp attachments). What type of connector would I need? Can a scart socket on the freeview box be connected to a usb port, for example.
Any help would be apreciated.

A freeview box is designed to feed a TV set, usually via a scart or via RF into the aerial socket. As your laptop will have neither of these, it's a non starter really. The only way that you can use a USB port is by using an adaptor. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0

I agree.
Why not flog the freeview box on ebay and use the proceeds towards the USB adaptor.SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
There are some decent USB TV cards on ebay with HD support too. Though I ain't too sure whether this makes a difference on a laptop which isn't HD enabledespresso wrote:A freeview box is designed to feed a TV set, usually via a scart or via RF into the aerial socket. One went for £21 a few days ago which isn't much extra considering the HD support
and the mini aerial included spacey

Really??gizmoleeds wrote:Considering that there are as yet no plans to broadcast HD via Freeview in this country I would say it's pretty much a useless feature.
These cards are good though - I have one and can get a perfect picture even with the included aerial.
I thought the world cup matches were in HD? And judging by the sales pitch of almost all V retailers it looks like HD is just round the corner :rotfl: Well it fooled me :rotfl: I'm looking to get one of these but have heard lots of rumours that you need to live practically next to the transmitter to get anything through the little included ariel

Just out of interest, if you enter your details into this site, how far are you from your nearest transmitter and what aerial does it recommend?
