Redundancy payment if part time

There is a rumour going round my husbands firm ( its the delivery section of a big national newspaper group) that their delivery firm will be shut and all delivers contracted out. The Big national firm already downsized the local newspaper and moved it out of our city last year, and shut some other delivery firms they owned, in other towns and cities and gave work to the one here, but now they feel they need to save more money.
My husband has a part time contract - basically all the drivers do, but works full time hours. This way they only ever have to be paid 20hrs for holidays and sick pay. Does anyone know how a 20 hr contract would affect any redundancy pay. Would he be entitled to any at all.
At 56 in a few weeks we know chances of him finding any other work is going to be very unlikely, but would be nice to know he would at least get something as previous downsizing was rumour for a year with national firm denying they would ever do anything like that until the day the memo went round saying they were, so everyone is worried as all drivers bar one is part- time and there are many of them.
Thanks

Redundancy payments are based on basic salary I am afraid, not average salary. To have argued that the contract has de facto increased in terms of number of hours, you would have had to do this a long time ago. It is too late to do anything about it now, as the drivers have accepted the terms by working them without challenge.0
