Photos Won't Open

This is probably the best Forum to ask this question.

A photographer recently gave me a large selection of old photographs. Some of the photographs will open others won't can anybody suggest what I can do to open these ones.

For the ones that don't open I get this message from photoshop. "could not complet your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG market type is found"

Here's an example of one that doesn't open is named: ._11469_171656558371_170147083371_295445__n.jpg

And here is an example of one that does open is named:
23989_368456282635_705507635_3831912_2__n.jpg

The one that doesn't open starts with ._
and I'm wondering if that is where the difficulty lies.

All the images were copied from an Apple put onto a memory pen and I'm using Windows XP to view them.

I can't understand why some will and some won't open. Any suggestions

Many thanks

If you right-click on one of the files that will not open and choose Properties, what information do you get about the file?

The file name: e.g.._1989winteam.jpg; in the attributes Hidden and Archive are selected, although I've deselected both of these and it makes no difference.

The rest is pretty much as you'd expect location, size etc

However, when I go to the summary properties I'm informed that summary properties are unavailable for the selected source(s)

Could be that it's not recognised in your edit program as the ._ seems to be incomplete

Is there anyway you can complete or rename the file so that it might open?

Try a program called Irfanview it's a free program, you will have to do a google to find where to download the program from.
Irfanview can sometimes open jpegs with these type of errors.

Do this. It means the files were created on a mac and that dot will mess things up.
