AA, RAC or HPI. Dont waste your time and money on cheap text checks.

Not worth it, May as well flip a coin.

    Agree with the above.
Someone posted a while back about a text hpi. Turns out it didn't do a full check and didn't check all the details and the poster was in a predicament.

Best way is to phone HPi while you're with the potential car, tell them the reg no, the chassis no, the engine no and any other details they need. They guarantee their info is accurate and will refund up to £30k (if i remember right). costs around £25 for the details and you'll receive everything via email to print for your records.

If you want to waste your money.

I know a cheaper one, Choose heads or tails and flip a coin.
You even get to keep your own coin.

Unless you use a recognised service eg HPi then..............
1 - there's no guarantee that the info suuplied will be correct or up to date.
2 - you might buy the car on the strength of that info and find that it has outstanding finance or is more than one car welded together.

Hence you would be cheaper to toss a coin and decide that way.

If you're spending a few hundred (or even a few thousand) pounds on a car then you need to spend a little bit on making sure the car is legal and proper.

Hpi is the recognised place for checking.

It's not even £20 to check the car and you get a guarantee up to £30k.

If you're trying to scrimp on the £20 then you really deserve every bit of trouble you get.

Thanks you sound lovely! I was trying to see if there were any cheaper options thats all and as it happens I went with the RAC instead and it was 14.99 and covers me for upto £30,000. Isn't money saving expert about looking for cheaper options if they are available?

i've used autocheck via experian as recommended by auto express magazine

    comes detailed enough.
lucky for me it showed one car as cat d and another one with finance, but the one with finance just wasn't cleared up by the finance place and so i rang up and checked for confirmation.

You were advised numerous times of the 3 reputable companies but were cheekily looking for freebies and discount codes.

count how many times you were advised to use the 3 companies in post 2.

Maybe it was a bit sarcastic but is it any wonder posters get annoyed??

Glad you've done the right thing though - it'll give you peace of mind and save you a potential fortune :j:beer:
